Ever wish you could look in the mirror and give yourself a pep talk? That’s exactly what inspired my debut Snapchat Lens, “Self Lover’s Tattoo”. This isn’t just another filter; it’s a bold celebration of self-love, empowerment, and identity.
Forget accessories like sunglasses—this Lens features fierce, temporary tattoo designs that proudly showcase self-expression. With uplifting affirmations and vibrant visuals, ”Self Lover’s Tattoo” reminds everyone to embrace their inner rockstar.
Project Brief: Make a Fashion Statement
From the clothes that we wear to how we accessorize and how we style our hair, fashion has evolved over the centuries as a means of expressing one’s identity. At the same time, as our lives become more digitized, virtual style is becoming an important part of people’s identity. How do you use fashion to blend your physical and digital identities and express yourself to the world? Showcase how you use fashion to express yourself to your Snapchat friends.
Who’s this Lens for?
Self Lover’s Tattoo was designed for anyone who needs a confidence boost or simply wants to celebrate their uniqueness. Featuring a subtle rainbow heart tattoo, the Lens also pays homage to the LGBTQ+ community, reinforcing a message of inclusivity and pride.
Brainstorming
The journey began with a question: how do people use fashion to express themselves? Inspired by my own tattoos, which are symbols of self-love, I shifted focus to temporary tattoos with empowering messages. These designs felt authentic, personal, and aligned perfectly with the brief.
Early sketches captured this spark of inspiration. One standout idea featured a mirror with the affirmation: “You’re what you love!”—a powerful reminder to cherish what makes you unique.
The mirror concept also tied back to the fashion statement theme, highlighting self-expression through a new lens.
Moodboard Creation
To ensure the Lens stayed true to its message, I crafted a moodboard that set the tone:
Empowering Words: Affirmations to inspire self-love.
Inclusivity: Diverse models reflecting the beauty of individuality.
Playful Elements: Glitter, face jewels, and whimsical touches to amplify joy.
Natural Beauty: Minimal makeup to enhance, not mask, one’s features.
This moodboard became a guiding light, shaping the Lens into a celebration of confidence and creativity.

Content Gathering: Designing with YOU in Mind
Armed with a heart-shaped theme (because, self-love!), I sketched various tattoo designs to evoke joy and empowerment. Special attention was given to inclusivity, with a rainbow heart tattoo symbolizing pride and authenticity.
To keep the Lens approachable, I focused on enhancing natural beauty. Subtle touches like blush and eyeliner complemented users’ unique features, while playful face jewels added a dash of sparkle, reminding everyone to shine brightly.
Final Work
"Self Lover's Tattoo" racked up over 248,000 views and nearly as many plays! But the coolest part is seeing people share this Lens and spread the message of self-love. Sharing is caring, after all!

Reflection
