What’s Clark Street Diner?

Clark Street Diner is a cornerstone of the community, a place filled with warm memories and delicious food. We understand they have a dedicated customers, but we wanted to find a way to deepen that connection.

My goal is to create an experience that makes existing patrons feel even more welcome and "at home" in their favorite diner.

Content Gathering

Interviews with customers, staff, and even local artists helped me understand the diner's offerings, hidden gems, upcoming events that pulsed with energy, and the unique community spirit that made Clark Street Diner special. This research ensured the zine would be relevant and engaging for both Clark Street Diner and its patrons.

Content Organization & Writing

This is not just a zine, but it’s a delicious journey through the heart of Clark Street Diner.

The pages were organized like a engaging book, with dedicated sections to:

  • Must-Try Delights: We highlighted menu recommendations, guaranteed to tantalize taste buds and inspire cravings.

  • Events at Clark Street Diner: Upcoming events like Drag Bingo nights and trivia throwdowns got their own spotlight, enticing readers to join the fun.

  • Photo Booth Contests (and Wins!): This section celebrated the laughter and memories captured in the Jukebox Photo Booth, showcasing the diner's playful spirit.

  • Staff's Secret Favorite: Our amazing staff unveiled their favorite dishes, offering hidden menu gems and insider tips.

  • A Heartfelt "Thank You": A warm message of appreciation expressed our gratitude to our loyal customers, the true stars of the Clark Street Diner story.

Moodboard Creation

The diner's stories echoed in my head - steaming mugs of coffee, laughter echoing off the chrome counter. With this newfound knowledge, I started creating a moodboard.

Classic diner vibes were a must-have, a red vinyl booth backdrop begging for a story. But something else was missing. A pop of color, a sprinkle of pop art, just like the jukebox blasting in the corner. This moodboard became my playground, where the classic Clark Street Diner aesthetic met a dash of playful fun, ready to come alive on the pages of the zine.

Challenge

Balancing informative content with a fun and engaging tone. I didn't want it to feel like a textbook, but it still needed to be clear and helpful. Ensuring clear hierarchy and easy navigation within the zine is another hurdle.

Solution

Tackling these challenges with a consistent layout, clear headings and subheadings, and visual cues that guided readers through the content like a friendly diner server.

Style Guide
